Do you know where this line from? Yes, It’s from Funny Face! In Japan, Funny face are known as パリの恋人. Today’s topic is movie. From my last post, I listed a song from this film called Think Pink to the playlist. Then now, It reminds me I should write about this classic movie starred by Audrey Hepburn.
Brief info:
Funny Face is filmed in 1957 by Stanley Donen who known as choreographer and film director. He filmed Singing in the Rain, Charade and more famous musical movies. Last not the least, Audrey Hepburn was starred. This film is sensational because before this there is no film about behind scene of fashion industry. About this fashion details I’m gonna write down later!
Story About..
This is one of the cinderella stories about a shy book seller girl, Jo (Hepburn) in Greenwich Village who acknowledges French philosophy turns into a model. Because of photographer, Dick (Astaire) who works for a fashion magazine called “Quality Magazine” found her by accident on the photoshoot of magazine. She decided to be a model because he said “ You can go to Paris if you were model and yon can meet your dream professor of Philosophy there.” So she seeks her dream and new adventure for love with the photographer.

This is kinda classic musical version of Devil wears Prada. In this case, it’s not about a writer it’s all about a model. And also, the sample of magazine is not Vogue this time It’’s about Harper Bazaar. However, there are a lot of common points too. For example, in both scenarios heroines are incredibly smart and attractive. We can say also the chief editor characters have models in real fashion magazine world.

It’s all about Givenchy! Not PRADA. It’s kinda famous story that Givenchy was one of closest friends of Hepburn. Before filming Funny Face, she wanted Givenchy to design her costume in Sabrina, but it didn’t work because of his schedule difficulties. Thus, this time he helped to design costume in this movie. There is one more forgettable fashion person, her name is Edith Head. She made it all happen. The movie was rare in 50s, because on the end role there was a credit for Givenchy’s . It was a turning point of new friendship between fashion and movie.
Funny Face means?
Funny Face means unique and charming in this scenario. In the fashion industry there are a lot of faces which are beautiful and perfect. From my point of view, this is one of release from perfectionist. This message means it’s okay to be funny or unique. If you believe in nature of beauty inside of you, it proves your charm is to be yourself.
